What to Expect at Texan Orientation

We are excited to welcome you to campus and walk you through your next steps towards becoming a Texan.

The week of your event the student will receive a detailed email with the information below. To set yourself up for the greatest texan orientation please see event details below and email transition@tarleton.edu if you have questions!


Need to know items:

  • Reminder: Texan Orientation is an all-day event. You may be on campus until 5:00PM, so please plan accordingly!
  • It is imperative that you complete needed TSI requirements or exemptions prior to attending Texan Orientation to help ensure a smooth advising experience. Click here for more information.
  • All students under 22 years old must have a bacterial meningitis vaccination or submit exemption documentation before the semester begins. Click here for more information.

Here’s what to expect:

Parking:

As you arrive on campus, there will be signs and friendly faces directing you to check-in. You’re looking for Parking Lot P8 or P9.

You can enter “N Cain St” in your phone Map app and it will guide you right to the parking lot! These two parking lots are assigned to the Texan Orientation event, there is no parking pass needed!

Check-in:

Texan Orientation check-in is at 8:30 AM at the Campus Recreation Center. Please park in the assigned Orientation parking lots above and friendly faces will guide you to the Campus Rec for check-in!

  • If you have an official signed and sealed dual credit/college transcripts you are needing to drop off, you can bring this to check-in!
  • You will also receive your official Tarleton Texan Card, please bring your Driver License (or a photo ID + with I9 documentation) for verification.

Texan Welcome:

Hear from our University President, Dr. James Hurley, meet your TTMs (Tarleton Transition Mentors) and learn the Tarleton Color Song!

Lunch and Learn:

During this time students and their guests will attend three rotation sessions!

  • Campus Life Essentials: Learn more about Duck Camp, Housing, meal plans, Texan Bucks, campus safety, and more!
  • Academics Essentials: Learn more about Academic Support Programs, Academic Advising, Student Accounts, and Co-curricular activities!
  • Lunch: Eat an all-you-can-eat buffet style lunch in our newly remodeled Dining Hall!

Fall Registration & Guest Session:

Students will be broken out with their TTM by college to meet with Academic Advising and faculty to get advised and registered for Fall classes!

While students are getting advised and registered for Fall courses, all guests will attend a session to learn more about the Tarleton Parents Association, Family Weekend, FERPA, Parent Portal and more (there is also a fun game of bingo to win Tarleton swag)!

Finish Strong:

This is where you will meet back up with your guests to finish the day strong! Now that you’ve registered, it’s time to get any questions that you may have answered!

  • Pick up your Texan Card.
  • Tour your future residence hall!
  • Stop by Financial Aid, Scholarships, Business Services, and Veteran Affairs.
  • Hear from Global Initiatives and Services, Career Services, the Health Center, and Counseling Services.
  • Learn about parking, claiming your student email, student Involvement, and Texan Smart!
